What airport do you fly to when going to Tahiti?

Was there a few years ago, superb holiday, flights from Paris with Air France, Papette is main international airport, to really see the best of it you should visit the smaller islands, will require internal flights.
French Polynesia is spread over an area the size of western Europe

Papeete is the airport - airport code PPT

For getting there Air France fly from Paris (via LA)
Air New Zealand offer service from London to LA direct with a connection to Papeete (you don't have to go via NZ)
Also the Tahitian airline http://www.airtahitinui.com/ fly to LA, New York JFK and Paris (via LA) as well as Japan, Oz & NZ

I've never been but I've heard it's eye wateringly expensive even by Pacific Island standards - because lots of stuff is imported (principally from France) and because it's fully part of France then costs are much higher than similar destinations.

It does look gorgeous though - http://www.linda.ch/borabora/
