Hi All,

We are heading to the West Coast of the States for our honeymoon and are visiting San Fran, LA, Las Vegas, Santa Barabara.

At the moment we are planning on San Fran for 3 nights and Las Vegas for 2 nights but we were wondering would be better off doing Las Vegas for 3 nights instead and San Fran for just two nights? Any advice is appreciated.

It's all down to personal taste really. I lived in the bay area for a couple of years and the first thing I would say is 2 or 3 days isn't a lot to spend in either city. That said...

I found San Francisco to be one of the nicest cities I had ever been in. It is easy to get around with lots to see. What I liked most about San Francisco was it's easy going, liberal atmosphere. Great city and worty of 3 days if not longer.

Las Vegas is more narrow in it's appeal. Don't get me wrong the casino's are great and much more family and entertainment orientated than you would think. Of course there is also the helicopter ride to the grand canyon or hoover dam which is supposed to be spectacular but the casino thing can get a bit OTT. Two days might be enough.

Again this is down to personal taste and depends what you want. Also you might want to consider flights between LA and San Fran. It's a long drive and if you have limited time it might be worthwhile.

I second SF fantastic city and very easy going and the hills are amazing but tiring! lol

Did this trip myself for our honeymoon.
Flew into vegas at night and then did 2 full days. Was proably enough time but if you want to do Grand Canyon give yourself another day.

But San Fran is amazing and needs a lot more than 2 days too.

We stayed only 1 night in Santa Bargara and that is our one regret. We should have stayed an extra night. Lovely relaxed town and would reommend 2 nights here.

We did Vegas to San Fran in 2 weeks. I think the problem with that is that people underestiamte the things you want to do. There's so much to see and do you leave things out. Its a hugh Journey and I felt we needed more time to appreciate it more. Would recoomend 3 weeks if you can do that.

We done this trip last year and opted out of las vegas as it just wasnt our thing...but here's my tuppence worth for San Francisco. It is a very relaxed city with a wonderful athmosphere. It's centre isnt a whole lot bigger than dublin so we found it easy to walk around (hills are a killer out around haight-ashbury though)..Thing about San Francisco, if you just want to stay in the centre, you could probabaly see everything you want to within 2 days. We rented a car though (streets were not hard to navigate..) and went out to the wine valleys and eventually drove down Big Sur to LA, going via Santa Barbara etc... This drive really made the holiday....if you hadn't planned a car rental in there, think twice. It was not intimidating at all and it was the only way to see a beautiful coountryside! Have a lovely holiday anyway..

San Francisco has to be my favrorite North American city; there is a lot to do and see. I would really recommend staying at least 3-4 days to get the most out of it and it is kind of romantic too.

Beware that accommodation is fairly expensive in comparison to the rest of California and Las Vegas and I would recommend you book it well in advance if possible.

Las Vegas is a good spot but unless you are really into the casino etc, two days would be more than enough.
