Weird thing with my fuel empty light

Had just under 1/2 a tank of petrol today in Lucan - drove to Bray & when setting off again, orange "low fuel" light was on & fuel marker was at empty. Checked under the car but no trace of leaking fuel.

Anyway, stopped & put a tenner into the car & lo and behold - back up to above the 1/2 full line!

Anybody any idea why?
 
this happens to me sometimes.the needle in the gauge seems to stick on empty and i suppose this turns the warning light on.if i switch off the car and turn on again its back to normal
 
Parked flat in a driveway & moved twice to a flat surface with the light still on! Weird...
 
Could be a sticking needle or the fuel leve sender.

Try filling the car to move push them through the full range might loosen something up.
