I have to say I'm not in the least bit impressed with Irish rail. I usually purchase montly ticket but as I was on holidays the first week of this month it worked out cheaper to get 3 weekly tickets. (€16.80X3 instead of €63)
But I ended up taking a long weekend so only needed a ticket from Wednesday to Friday on week. On the Wednesday I bought a daily return as thats all the money I had on me, and on the Thursday I said I'd get the weekly ticket and renew it on Thursdays.
Shocked wasn't the word for it when I put my ticket in the machine Monday morning for it to be rejected. Only then did I notice the expiry date, only 3 days after I purchases it!! I went to the desk to ask why the week long ticket I requested only last 3 days, and he smugly informed me that weekly tickets run from Sunday to Saturday! So I paid 16.80 for what should have cost me 10.20 if I had paid daily.
I wouldn't have minded any of this if the guy selling the ticket could have just said "you know this only lasts till Saturday". Is this a bad deal/rip off or was it just my bad luck for not asking how long a weekly ticket lasts for?
