Weed Burners

I bought one off a different retailer last year. Can't say I have had any success though.

I often woundered about that, but am very sceptical. Found this.

I have used one. You just need to pass the flame over the weed to kill it (or knock it back). If you want you can burn it to cinders. You feel like you have done something and it is much more fun.... but not necessary.

If you pass the flame over it, it will damage the leaves etc and they will die off. But I have found that they will come back over time. Or perhaps it is different weeds!

In other words... you can have fun and save your back using a torch, or crawl around scraping them out.

I use one. Good for spot treatment -- the illustration in the advertisement gives a good idea of intended use.

I bought one of these from Aldi recently but cant get the flame on.

I have the gas canister connected to the J shape rod and can turn the gas on and off but when I try and get the burner to light using the black switch on the rod, nothing happens.

Can anyone help...

The black switch should generate a spark. The gas won't light if the flow is either too weak or too strong, so you can fiddle with that a bit.

Failing that, you can ignite the gas with a match or lighter - but be careful.

Thanks will try that - forgive me for asking a stupid question but where should I light it - at the black switch??

Had one of these. Totally useless in my opinion. you have to stand over each weed for ages to get any results and it doesnt kill the root so the weed grows back.

Less effort required to just pull it out.

Weed killer like roundup much better

I don't think they are totally useless. They are of limited usefulness: for example, dealing with a few weeds in a paved area, or close to other plants that you don't want to splash weedkiller on. Especially if you have a bad back, and don't want to get down to weed level too much.
