I went to a wedding fair in a local hotel and they had a sign saying "20% discount on weddings booked today". So I booked my wedding for next year. I asked did the desposit have to be paid today and girl said " no, you have 2 weeks to pay it ", so I didn't pay it. Then I go to pay the deposit the following week and I was told that I don't get the discount because I didn't pay the desposit on the day. I am very annoyed at this. What is your opinions, am I entitled to the discount or what, should I fight it.

definitely worth discussing this further with them - I found that most wedding suppliers are open to negotiation. Remember, they need your business more than you need them and their reputation is at stake here. So be calm and logical when meeting with them, and I'm sure you can reach a compromise.
If you can remember the name of the girl you spoke to, perhaps try to contact her again?

The sign makes it clear that the discount applies when you 'book' the wedding 'today', which is what you did. It says nothing about having to pay the deposit on the spot and the girl you spoke to confirmed that. For the hotel now to claim otherwise might come under 'misleading advertising' but you'd be advised to contact the National Consumer Agency for a view - 1890 432432.

There is nothing to be lost in contacting a manager in the hotel, and explain calmly what happened and how you feel about it. Is the deposit refundable? Your business should be important to them, and also that of your friends and relatives who would be interested in acting on your recommendation.

Absolutely agree with Pat127 and would agree that you should contact the Manager directly.

Weddings are big business for hotels and I would think something they'd be unhappy to lose, particularly as a result of misinformation.

The girl got back to me offering a 10% discount. Although, this is better than nothing I still wanted to fight for the 20%. So I contacted the manager who had to ask the General Manager and came back saying he was not willing to move from the 10% discount. So, I am now waiting on a call from the General Manager as I want to have one last go at getting the full 20% I feel I am entitled to.

If they don't give the full 20% discount, get a refund and go elsewhere (or wait till they have another offer if you really like that hotel.

Just got a call from the Hotel. They are now offering me the full 20% discount. I'm delighted. Just goes to show if you fight for things you get them. Thanks for your help
