Wedding Band Disaster

Due to get married in Co Clare this May. Booked a really good band last June, went to hear them and paid deposit. Just phoned them yesterday and have been told that they are double booked!!! Manager says he got a phone call from a girl last week saying she booked him in 2005 (he has no record of this or of having received a deposit) and he is now refusing to do our wedding. He was also supplying the DJ!

He gave some names of other bands but all booked for May or else not any good. Panicing now and don't know what I can do. He has ruined are wedding plans!

Don't panic. Try and maybe sourse a great dj for the night. Do up your own song list to bring you through the whole lot. Good luck with it.

Sorry, what I forgot to ask is if this has happened to anybody else and also does anybody have any advice!

I know, panicing won't help at this stage. Thanks for that advice.

Many of the weddings Ive attended recently people have used their own ipod and song lists with speakers for the wedding and it has worked out so well and so much cheaper. Would you consider doing that?

I hope you got your deposit back.

No he didn't even mention our deposit last night. Was in too much shock to ask about it! I know that we still have options, we just had our hearts set on that band having heard them a few times.

Get back on to him tonight about your deposit, your deposit should only be withheld if you cancelled not the other way around.

Consider the iPod route, once youve gotten over the shock you might be pleased to have the money saved!

Why did he decide to take her word (not having a record nor deposit for the booking). Seems very odd. If I was the manager I would give the booking to the person I had a deposit from.

did you chance ringing any of the bands advirtised in the back of the bridal/wedding mags?
Also check with local pubs and night spots if they could recommend a band / even a one man band!

Hi jmc.. Im involved with a wedding band and can tell you, despite best practices, double bookings sometimes do happen. Its normally only months after when a phone call is made by a routine checkup that the discovery is made. If he has said hes definitely not doing your wedding the best thing you can do is move on as quickly as possible.
The deposit is refundable, Id take him to court if he said it wasnt.

I would really advise not doing your own music and playing through an mp3 player, book a DJ and let him know the type of music you like and leave him at it. An experienced DJ knows how to control a crowd and what music to play to get a crowd dancing, despite others thinking they also know, they do not. Also, if you did it yourself, youd have to hire equipment and set this up and work it and bring it back.
You have time enough to get a DJ, Id advise using an agency if you dont know one or can get one recommended.
If you're stuck for a band, try some of the main agencies, lbw promotions (087 2320000), , , they have lots of bands and available dates (be prepared for added costs going through agencies, but if youre stuck ...)
if youre still cant get a band pm me and I'll dig out some numbers for you.. Clare is a bit far for most dublin bands but I know some that will travel. Book the band before DJ and ask them will they supply DJ.

best of luck..

There are some very good wedding bands in Limerick/Tipperary area - heard some lately. If stuck post on thread again - somebody will come up with a good wedding band. My son and daughter got married last year(separate weddings of course) - both used the same wedding band. They were just brilliant - specialize in weddings. They cost €1100 euro - 6 piece.

PM sent with a recommendation. jmc2000, any chance you could acknowledge receipt? Thanks - Paul.

Whatever band turns up you won't remember much about them afterwards, you will be so full of adrenalin it won't matter. But try this link and you might get one or two of some us. It's only 3 years and I can't remember ours!!! Or what they sang (but then again I am a bloke so meant to forget this kind of thing). I hope it all works out for you.

They must have been forgettable so. ...
In all seriousness, you might not always notice the bad or average ones(or remember them) but you'll know the good ones when you hear them and they can turn an average wedding reception into a great one, and believe me, theres a LOT of average ones.

Oh so hurtful....not that they were average cause my wife believes them to be great and talks about it regularly. I'm just one of those people who doesn't pay too much attention to the likes of that.

Comment was tongue on cheek, but I fully understand, I stood at the alter too and dont ask me the color of the flowers, the colour of the bridesmaids dresses, what the cake looked like, etc..etc....
