Have been advised that the only way to download movies is in the mkv format as apparently this is the closest to 1080p you'll get when downloading...each movie averaging 4gb is this the best option??

Is your question about a WD media player, or about downloading movies in HD format ?

WD devices can play .MKV files and, depending on the model, usually have an HDMI Out socket.

The size of an MKV file is related to the length of the content. A 2 hour movie could be as large as 4GB, though that's not a hard and fast rule. I've had issues with getting a file of that size onto a USB drive (FAT/NTFS limitation).

The specifics of downloading movies is generally not allowed on AAM.

Now that you say it I realise the title is not ALL that relative to the content of the post...currently debating buying a WD media player in order to play mkv files. Cheers for the info and as a new user thanks for the heads up...

Just to clarify, we don't allow discussion of illegal activity. So discussing the specs of file formats and players is fine.
