Water Damage to Shop

The wife's Barber shop has been destroyed by a burst water pipe, the landlord has plumbers etc in to fix it all but she will not be able to open for 3 weeks. The LL said insurance will pay for any loss or damages, so she is now compiling a list.

She will have to work out what she would have earned each week, but barbering isn't steady from week to week. This week would have been very busy with kids going back to school and people going back to work. Would she put down what she made this week last year? But this time last year she was only open 4 months, so her business has been getting busier throughout 2010.

She will claim for all the damaged equipment, clippers etc. But she has a laptop which was sitting in a pile of water, its more for personal use, but she does keep a record of her daily accounts on it, will this be covered? She is also going to claim for an advert to let customers know when she is reopening.

Its a complete disaster for her and the money she gets wont come near to compensate. If the shop is closed her customers will go elsewhere and then she has to hope they will return to her when she reopens. I'm not posting this to try and profit from the damage, but is there anything else she should be claiming for?
Thanks

Does your wife have her own internal risk policy? The LL policy may only cover basic fistures & fittings. If she has her own policy she should be covered for all contents effected by the water damage. She should also see if shes covered for business interuption. This would allow her work in temporary accomadation for up to 12 months whilst the original place is being repaired. Her best bet might be to contact an independent assessor to process the claim for her. You'll find some on this site.
