Water damage problem

I signed for a new house in July and moved in a week or so later. I noticed last night quite a large damp patch on the ceiling of a downstairs bathroom. Directly above the patch is the shower in the main bedroom ensuite. I can only assume it has appeared over the last week or two as I wouldn't go in to this room much and never noticed it . I will contact the builder(who is still in the process of selling 4 other houses next to mine), but my problem is that it was bad enough getting him to finish the house off in the first place so I think he will avoid me at all costs. I know for sure that he has no money and his bank are more or less taking all proceeds at this stage. My feeling is that it's a plumbing problem and not just a defective seal in the shower. Would Homebond cover this. What are my options here. Thanks

HomeBond will only cover what they see as "structural" problems. A plumbing problem is not structural. If the builder is in dire straits check your HomeBond policy is real. Check it with HomeBond obviously.

Sounds like this problem could be easily fixed by a plumber, admittedly at your expense.

If it was me I would pay what is probably no more than the plumbers call out charge rather than the hassle of trying to contact/waiting in for, what you know is a reluctant builder.

One or two coats of stain block in the affected area, followed by standard emulsion will then fix the stain on your ceiling.
