watching laptop through the TV?

I am going buying a laptop. I would like to be able to watch my laptop through my television. We do not currently have a TV in the house (shared house). What kind of Specs would be required to do this.
What age/price range telly would be able to do this?
Are there connection pieces that would make an older tv capable of doing this?

I have hooked mine up basically you need a TV with scart connection or hdmi or a Laptop that has hdmi

Then you need a connection details of were I got mine are in the thread

The resolution you may have to change on your Laptop when you hook it up but other than that ok
 
You could also get a scan converter which changes your VGA computer monitor out put into TV signal which goes into scat or s video in on TV. It good but not clear on small text but video is fine.
