Hi, just moved into our new build. Using the same washing machine as before (seems perfect, about 2 yrs old, hotpoint aquarius) and same washing powder (fairy non bio). When he hooked it up the plumber mentioned that he hooked it to the cold water only, not the hot, as this was the norm now.
Im noticing that stains are just not coming out of clothes now. Any ideas?
Tks.

That is correct - the machine will heat the water up.

Is is heating up? You should be able to gauge by putting your hand on the glass door when running a 40 degree or more cycle.

Does anyone know what the reasoning behind this being the norm? Is it just to avoid plumbing hot water to the machine? Seems odd to me.

It is supposed to be more efficient, because you are only heating exactly the amount of water you need. In practice, most homes these days have a constant supply of hot water anyway (the days of turning on the immersion 20 minutes before a bath - and remembering to turn it off on pain of death - seem to be well gone......), so I am not sure if the argument is a valid one.

Checked that, heating up fine. might try changing washing powder.

Thanks for your comments.

If you've moved from a soft water to a hard water location, you'll need to use more detergent - see the back of the packet !
