Wall safe to fix furniture to?

Hi, just wondering how you know if a wall is safe to fix furniture to?

We have 2 walls where we'd like to do this: one is an external wall in the hall that we want to fix a radiator cover to, the other is an internal wall in our box room which we want to fix Ikea shelving to.

All walls are safe to fit funrniture too. You will need to use the correct fittings for the wall type. Stud walls (hollow behind a sheet of plasterboard) can generally take less weight, but you can get specialist cavity fixings that will carry significant weight.

The standard wall plugs will be enough to hold the radiator cover to on any wall type. For shelving, if it's a cavity wall, you'll need to use something like toggle fittings.

Further to Leo's post, if you locate the studding behind the plaster board and fix to that, then you can hang significant weight of it.

Slightly off topic but a friend who fitted a radiator cover is now sorry that she did because she says it blocks the heat.
