Wall insulation in terraced house - any consideration?

Hi! I was thinking of geeting the two walls insulated in our terraced house. I've been quoted e980. Is it worth getting the back and front walls of the hosue done? I have had the attic done, and don't knowtice that much differnet. Would getting the walls insulated as well make much difference? Also, is there anythibng I need to be careful of in pumpibng insulation into the walls of house?

we just got insulated slab board (82.5mm) put up on one external wall in a room in our house. Its not yet plastered but the effect is amazing, i have one of them room temp from SEAI, you can order them free of charge for a couple of them. Also when we did the attic (Bungalow) the effect was equally amazing.

Iv a few posts on insulation up here as do others that are well worth a read. Have you draftproofed the attic hatch and other air leakage spots. Iv just done the downlighters for instance although they still need more attention.

We have reservations on pumping walls as heard/seen horror stories of companies not doing good job, mould growth, effect not noticeable, neighbours company went out of business three weeks after they did job!. (others here will disagree with me immediately). However there also seems to be/could be issues with internal insulation but we decided to chance as only one wall.

Thanks so much for your reply. That's what I was concerned about, that pumping insulaiton into walls, if not done propertyl, could lead to mould growth - and that would create a whole serious of other propblems! I think I will just stick with the attic insualtion for now. What were the slabs you put on the outside of your hosue for insulation?

sorry, actually we put the slab board (its 8ft by 4ft plasterboard with rigid insulation stuck to it) on the inside wall (internal insulation) of the room but its an external wall (as opposed to a wall between two rooms internally). We then have to get a plasterer to plaster the inside wall in the room.

I have internal wall insulation too, on the two external walls of a terraced house. I did it when I bought the place and I could only afford one of either double glazing or insulation - I chose the insulation because I was also fitting a new kitchen and a new bathroom, both of which would need to be "spaced" to allow for the insulation (i.e. 10cm out from the original wall).

Anyway, I'm delighted with it. Despite the fact that I only have single glazing this house is actually the warmest place I've ever lived in, because it retains heat. On weekday mornings in the winter we don't need the heat to come on because the house is still warm enough from the night before (I have an instant shower, so no need for hot water). So that alone saves us 5 hours a week of heating.

I was recommended the internal insulation by a surveyor friend (I can't remember his reasoning) but you may get a similar (and less disruptive) effect from external insulation.

As our wall had no window/door/point points/switches it was only matter of attaching the boards to the walls. our boards were €50 each (you can get cheaper but they thinner so less insulation) and mushroom pins .17 cent each. we used 12 per board but shop had told us 10 was sufficient but they also sent the wrong length first (too long, hit the cavity allowing a huge breeze in in the first one hammered in) so we went with the fellow who put them up. Done in couple hours, still waiting for the plaster to come but he reckons only few hours work. Room is perfectly usable once the board up, just one wall not decorated. Have room cleared, then just repainting etc.
