Hi folks,
I recently completed online registration for Mortgage Interest Relief. Can somebody please tell me how long registration takes? I completed application 4 months after my first mortgage repayment.

Also, on what day during the month does this payment get made if lender partakes in payment at source

Hello
I did that and I had to wait for months also. I eventually rang my bank enquiring about the delay and they got onto the collector general themselves and "it was sorted" to quote the bank, in a matter of days. I am now receiving the relief. I was with AIB by the way!

I'm with BOI, don't remember having to wait at all, think I received it in the same month as I started to pay the mortgage. TRS is applied same day as the mortgage payment goes out.

Can someone explain how this works to me please?? (hopefully this isn't dragging things offtopic since the question seems to have been answered)

I checked all the relevant info and from what I gather... The max a single person can claim is 10,000 per annum at the standard rate of 21%. This works out to be about 175 per month? And this can be claimed for the first 7 years.

Have I got that right??

Have I got that right?

I applied for my tax relief the first week in January, I received my tax relief in my February mortgage repayment.

You did well Euromoney. I believe the usual process (having applied twice) is that it takes about 8 weeks to process. I would ring them after this period to confirm it has gone through because I didn't get mine after 10 weeks and when I rang them they said there was something filled out wrong on my form, yet they never thought to tell me that! I had to reapply for the whole thing altogether and was told it would be 8 weeks, which it was.

The bank got on to the Collector General? I didn't know that the C G would be able to correspond with the bank. I was told by NIB that the CG would only deal with me, and the bank will only apply the tax relief when the CG instruct them to.

Ditto, good service from BoI and Revenue working together.
