From the Citizens Information site - Paternity Benefit
A new Paternity Benefit is being introduced for fathers availing of the new 2 weeks’ statutory paternity leave. It will be paid at €230 per week in respect of births from September 2016. The PRSI contribution conditions will be the same as those for Maternity Benefit (September 2016).
The real question is if your employer will top you up to normal salary or not.
Until Sept there is no obligation on an employer to recognise paternity leave, a lot of companies do but that is down to the policy of each company. Any leave taken before that by law would be unpaid or annual leave taken in the normal manner with the agreement of your employer.
yeah, my company gives nothing, not even if the baby is born on a workday! Its all considered annual leave so although company doesn;t topup salary, wondering if there are any minuses of waiting to get PL
