VW warranty

Hi all. A close friend has a 10 VW Gold diesel with 60K km mileage on the clock. The power steering pump stopped in it just before the weekend and the car was taken to the nearest VW dealer where it will be accessed on Monday. The warranty is out of date with 13 weeks. She will get a definite quote on Monday, but has been told it could cost up to 2K euros. She is in a state as this is a lot of money in the current climate.
Does anyone know what VW Ireland are like to approach in a situation like this, do they do have a good will and offer complete replacement or tough luck, warranty is out? Can anyone advise on the best course of action, please?
IN the meantime she is without a car until they access it and the local main dealer doesn't give replacement cars. Thanks for any thoughts given.

Call VW and tell tghem you wouldn't expect this to be happening. They might offer to meet you halfway on the cost of the parts.

Forget about warranty, check your rights as a consumer on the citizens information web-site. Two years is not an acceptable time to have a major defect develop in the car. A manufacturer's warranty is in addition to your consumer rights with the seller - the motor trader you purchased the car from.

Had a similar issue with a Passat after the 2-year warranty was up (3-years in UK BTW). Rang VW garage and was quoted price. Rang local garage and was quoted better price so went with them.

Contacted VW Ireland to say that it was a disgrace re 2-year warranty blah blah blah and the guy in VW told me that the VW garage should have told me about a goodwill policy VW Ireland have whereby if something breaks which shouldn't have so soon after warranty period, VW Ireland will normally fix it free of charge as a gesture of goodwill.

If the VW garage don;'t tell you about it and/or plead ignorance then you should contact VW Ireland and see what they say.
