Lady Relative is considering 5-door VW Polo 1.2 petrol new.

Questions;

1. Better to go for the petrol or diesel - read mixed reviews on the diesels being worth the premium

2. 1.2 or 1.4 - read 1.4 is actually more efficient due to bigger engine

3. Quoted €15K including scrappage with extra €400 for metallic paint.
Is this in the ball park?

4. If she dislikes VW Polo after test drive - what else is worth considering?

Lady lives in the country and intends to keep the car for a good while!

Comments, suggestions welcome :D

My son is looking at cars at the moment and he seems to be going for a Renault Megane 1.5 diesel. He got a quote of €14,750 on the road which includes metallic paint. He has test driven quite a few including Polo but says the Megane great value.

Got quoted €11.750 for new Seat Ibiza 1.2 5dr- scrappage...all in, metalic paint etc.

Will look at Renault, but i have has 2 Ibizas and always good to me. I do 11k mileage ,so felt diesel option wasn't worth it would be 14.5 kish for 1.4 Ibiza diesel.

Probably not worth going for a diesel

Plenty of these small cars

Yaris
Corsa
New fiesta
208
fiat panda

the list goes on.

Do you really need to buy new.

Buy a two year old Golf 1.2 instead.
Biggest hit on depreciation is done and it will hold its value well.

ONQ.
