Anyone recommend a good mechanic/garage on the southside for repairs on a vw golf 99.I am trying to avoid bringing it to a vw main dealer.
Thanks

Whats wrong? Sometimes the main stealer is the best option, saves on return trips!!

Hi thanks for the reply, its very spluttery in 2nd gear. Was hoping to get it repaired without going to a main dealer as it would be very expensive.

hey u can find Gearbox specialist on goldenpages.
if you are sure thats the problem, they should do a grand job but less than Main dealer

I drive a 1999 VW Golf and have gone to a small family firm for last two services on recommendation. Have been very satisfied with them: Beaufort Autos Ltd, Convent Lane, Grange Road, Rathfarnham. Ph: 01-4932117. Full service last year (pre NCT) was €302 which included replacement of rear lamp (~€80).

Hi thanks for your reply,do they have the diagnostic computer as in main dealers??

i know this is where the confident lies between the 2.
personally i will get a quote from both and see how much the difference is, obviously the main dealer have diagnosed what the problem is, you will be suprised the difference if any from an independent garage.
do not tell them what exactly the problem is to see if they try to rob you in any way. i have little fate in mechanics unless they are recommended by someone i know

I've no idea but you could ask. They were able to reset that reminder that keeps popping up when a service is due. They also advised me about the ? timing belt which apparently needs replacement in Golfs after a certain age or mileage - but I don't need it yet! I lost trust in the main dealer I used for years (for a good reason) and am very satisfied with this firm.
