VRT Question

Hi,

A friend of mine has just brought over a car (worth £3K) from Scotland to her holiday home in Donegal. She intends leaving it there permanently so that her elderly parents can drive around when they are staying there.

What is her situation with VRT. Would she be better off bringing the car back and forth each year? Or else, would she be as wsie to get the car registered here etc?

How much would it cost on a car worth roughly Eur 5k?

there is a VRT calculator on the revenue website that will calculate the amount payable.

Is your friend an Irish resident or is she too resident in Scotland, in which case I wouldn't think that vrt applies, although it's a strange one.
Does a resident of country A who owns property in country B and leaves a car at this property have to pay vrt to country B, I wouldn't think so.

She's almost certainly need to inform her insurers if she is changing the address at which the car is normally kept.
