VRT and VAT on car from UK

Hi all I’m thinking of bringing a car in from the UK mainland. It’s second hand and four years old. I can work out the VRT from the calculator. Vat is 23%. Is vat applicable to the UK price or the UK price plus VRT? Is there any other custom fees ?
The reason I am buying from the UK is that the model has a lower mileage than anything I’ve seen here.

There would be customs duty due as well if the car was not manufactured in the UK. This document covers everything you need to know by the looks of it - https://www.revenue.ie/en/tax-profe...licy/import-of-motor-vehicles-from-the-UK.pdf

I believe customs duty is added to the price you paid first, then VAT calculated on the two of those. VRT is a separate process done after import and based on a database of values for each car type, it has nothing to do with the price you paid or VAT/duty you paid.

Some cars may be vat qualifying which means no VAT, ask a customs agent, a few companies will arrange for a fee
