Volcanic ash insurance refund ?

I applied to both Aer lingus and my insurance company for a refund due to being stranded recently. The originals were sent to both so there is no duplication. Aer lingus got my accomodation cost.

I got a letter back from the insurance company for 100 euro as a token as it does not provide cover for claims as a result of this situation, but has agreed to assess it under travel delay section.
My question is .... If I accept this does this mean that Aer lingus will not pay me for my other claim?
Is the insurance company liable for the 'rearrangement' as it covers 'additional travel costs if holiday is...rearranged'
