We use Irish Broadband for our phone as well as our broadband. When we check our messages, sometimes we receive the message but more often than not we just hear a strange irritating tone. It's a repeating thing (regular in nature, like an engaged tone would be, at a rate of about a half second per sound) but it's a thick and loud sound, almost like a drilling sound or the sound of an alarm. For a time my partner thought that this was because the receiver was out of its cradle (and thus not close enough to the broadband link) but putting the receiver back in its cradle doesn't help at all. Has anybody experienced anything like this or does any Telecoms expert know what's happening? This has only happened (as far as I can recall) since we went from Eircom to IBB for our telephone.
