Morning all,

Has anyone here been to Las Vegsas on holidays? Where did you fly from/to? How expensive is it to get there and also rough accommodation costs?

Finally, if one were to fly from Vegas to Florida, how long would that take?

thanks.

I just hated LV, the wife loved it, only stayed over for a couple of days though. Flying from LV to Florida would take about 4 hours (depends where in FL you fly into).

Re: Tacky

thanks stobear. where did ye fly from? Not interested in the casino part at all really, but would really like to see the various shows etc. that are resident there.
Cheers.

Re: Tacky

I never flew from LV to Florida directly, but have crossed the states a few times, my 4 hour is an estimate. We flew from London to Phoenix, and then drove to LV via Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon and flew to LA and headed north!

Your choices into Las Vegas from Florida are Orlando with Northwest or Ft Lauderdale with Song (Delta lowcost offshoot).
Even if you do not like gambling, LV is worth couple of days just to see the sheer spectacle of the place. That would be enough though. You could finish out the week with a trip to the Grand Canyon - definitely worth a visit.

Re: las vegas

Trying not to label the point, but this [broken link removed] is superb, its not on the scale as the Grand Canyon, but its still superb. Its further North into Utah than the GC, but worth the drive if you have time. The GC should be seen at sunrise, thats amazing, but there is a lot of people when we were there compared to Bryce in November

Re: las vegas

where in Ireland did you fly from to get to LV?

Re: las vegas

Hi Buzz55,
I was in Las Vegas in December. My SIL got a great deal with a travel agent in Dublin. We flew with Delta Airlines
Dub-Shannon-Atlanta- Las Vegas. Delta were brilliant to fly with. (Great InFlight Service) 5nights Accommodation& Flights were €520 we went out on the 3rd Dec and returned 0n the 9th Dec (allow for time diff). The hotel we stayed in was the Sahara. Nice Clean basic Hotel at end of the strip. What can I say. We loved it had a ball. The way I see it you either will love it or hate it LV is defo not everyones cup of tea but to me it weird, wonderful , trashy all combined. Some amazing hotels.
Very cheap and the outlets were fantastic for shopping.
Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam Fab trip.
Would definitely go back.

Re: las vegas

Went to vegas a few years ago ... hell. Flew from Dublin to Heathrow to LAX and then on to McCaren ... the flight is horrendous.

Stayed in the Rio which was nice. When we arrived felt like getting on a plane and going home again. In most of the hotels you have to get through the casino to check in.

The shopping is good ... the service is good. The food is good. There are lots of non-vegas things to do ... eg golf etc. but when in Rome, ... go and see the strip, visit Ceasers palace, and see how the other half lives!

Try to get to a show if you can ... you need to book months in advance for most ... we got last minute tickets to Steven Write in the stardust ... I laughed so much I cried.
Enjoy

Re: las vegas

I was there in February, and stayed for the second time at Treasure Island (or TI as they are rebranding it) www.treasureisland.com where they had special packages. It takes a bit of working out but doable. The most reasonable prices are from Sun-Thurs, the prices for Fri/Sat go up big time. We flew Dub-LAX and then used www.southwest.com for very reasonable flights. LV is amazing, a monument to decadence. We didn't go to the Grand Canyon because it was 14 hours round trip in a bus. Though hire car might be an option. We hired a car and drove the short distance to the Hoover Dam which was impressive. The Luxor are doing good deals in April I think. For dinner, go to the Grand lux Cafe in the Venetian. One of the best meals we've had in the US. Remember also that as long as you bet, you get free drink ! We just played the 1c and 5c slots and then when the waitress comes around, we tipped her a dollar a drink. A merlot in a tumbler glass and a long island ice tea for $2 !

Re: las vegas

We stayed in Paris the first time we went - fantastic, great atmosphere! The second time we stayed in MGM which is another good hotel. Good point by last poster, though the drinks are free you must tip the waitress - at least a dollar per tip. If you tip well, they will be sure to keep you topped up!!!
