Re: vista home preium

what do you want to know? how it compares to vista basic or ubuntu?

Surprisingly enough Microsoft have lots of information about it on their website. I can't recall the URL offhand though.

Prepare to be assimilated

Vista's legal fine print includes extensive provisions granting Microsoft the right to regularly check the legitimacy of the software and holds the prospect of deleting certain programs without the user's knowledge. During the installation process, users "activate" Vista by associating it with a particular computer or device and transmitting certain hardware information directly to Microsoft.

Even after installation, the legal agreement grants Microsoft the right to revalidate the software or to require users to reactivate it should they make changes to their computer components. In addition, it sets significant limits on the ability to copy or transfer the software, prohibiting anything more than a single backup copy and setting strict limits on transferring the software to different devices or users.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the scaremongering below.

Given that the version of an OS that ships with a machine is generally an OEM version, the user technically is not supposed to install the OS on any other machine, so MS is just protecting it's rights.

As for transmitting details to MS, what do you think they do with it? Identity Theft? Tracking all your activity?

On Windows Defender, I've been using this software (and it's predecessor) for over 3 years on a large selection of machines without any problems. It certainly has never removed or interfered with any other anti virus, anti spyware products, firewalls on the machines.
