Hi guys,

I am considering renting out a room in my house to help me with my mortgage repayments. What are the legal implications with this? i.e. do i have to notify the local council? how much tax do you pay on rent collected etc. the rent would be small (approx €250 / month)

Check out the rent a room scheme on the revenue website.

Can earn up to 10K per year tax free under this scheme.

You are under no obligation to contact the council.

Just make sure to update your house insurance to cover "rent a room"
