video player and dvd recorder

Ok this is complicated, me ma has loads of old videos she needs to be able to play so need a machine that will play those along with dvd's and then record onto a dvd as well, does this make sense?
Any suggestions ? cheapest one possible as would get v little use anyhow

There might well be a combined vcr and dvd recorder.

However, if you have a vcr and a dvd recorder, why not just play them on the vcr and then copy them to a dvd.
