VHI is to scrap a number of its most popular plans in a move that could affect up to 150,000 customers.
Experts have been questioning the value of the comprehensive plans for some time and now they’re urging customers to shop around as they could make savings of as much as €1,000 per adult.
The to-be-discontinued packages include Health Plus Extra (old Plan B Options), Health Plus Access (old Plan B), Health Plus Excess (old Plan B Excess) and also their Health Access scheme.
They will no longer be available from 1 May, but those who have already renewed for another year won’t have theirs cancelled or changed on that date.
VHI’s newer Advanced Care range will serve as alternatives to the scrapped plans.
I don't know the VHI logic unless they are reducing some part of the cover e.g. psychiatric cover of 180 days versus 120 days in alternative. Does anybody know?
Does anyone know a good similar alternative for health plus premium VHI - looking to keep cover as much the same as possible i.e. need excellent hi tech cover
To ask the Minister for Health if he will ensure the Health Insurance Authority facilitates comparisons between valid, existing, to be discontinued and other available policies on its website, where the website currently only presents comparisons between policies which may be purchased and does not provide a comparison tool against a customer’s existing policy where that policy is to be retired, in order to ensure full transparency for consumers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The Health Insurance Authority (HIA) is the statutory regulator of the private health insurance market. It provides a free online comparison tool on their website, available at https://www.hia.ie/comparison-tool/ which allows health insurance customers to assess what plans are currently active across all health insurers in the market.
The website comparison tool only displays plans that are currently for sale on the market. Plans that are visible on the tool currently must be available to purchase by any person wishing to do so. If a consumer wishes to access information about any retired plans, they can contact the HIA via email, at info@hia.ie. They can also contact their consumer helpline on 0818 929 166 to speak directly to a consumer information officer.
Really unhappy about removal of these plans - my elderly parents have been on health plus premium for years and now I can't even find the closest alternative for them as the HIA tool has removed them from the comparison options.
Does anyone know a good similar alternative for health plus premium VHI - looking to keep cover as much the same as possible i.e. need excellent hi tech cover
