VAT return

hi,
Quick question.
Do you still have to submit a VAT return even if no transactions happened over the past 2 months - i.e no sales and no purchases???

Cheers

It might be an idea to include a note with the vat3 stating why there was no trading. It might be enough to offset an audit.

Was asking a revenue employee about writting letters to explain high vat refunds etc as i always thought they were a good idea and could help prevent revenue audits maybe. Was told that letters were absolutely no good as figures were put in system and letters put some other place and no notice taken of letters when figures were been reviewed

Revenue audits are (in the main) based on risk factors as assessed by their computer systems. They will listen to your explaination once the audit has commenced but unfortunately not the other way around.
