VAT Rate Doubt

A business is unsure of the rate of VAT to be charged for a particular product or service. Can it ask for a ruling from Revenue?

The short answer is yes - I did this and received an email response confirming my understanding was correct (or in one case incorrect) for a series of items.

As far as I remember it took them a couple of weeks to come back. I considered this well worth doing as the consequences for getting it wrong are not good.
