Vat Query

I am self employed and I do not have an office only I use a room in my house for my paperwork.I am VAT registered, can I claim part of my electricity and home heating oil vat on my vat return and if yes what percentage should I claim.Thank you.

You may want to be careful what 'household' expenses + VAT you try to claim for your business, this can affect your Prinicpal Private Residence refief if you ever sold your house, the revenue could deem that a portion of your house was used as business premises. I am not aware how often this actually occurs but is worth keeping in mind.

If you are going to claim them then apportioned by floor area works well.
