We're decorating 2 rooms at the moment and replacing the skirting with a new 150mm solid oak skirting. I got the unfinished skirting from a local builders provider and on their advise finished it with two coats of clear varnish back and front.
When it came to fitting it I noticed there was a bow in the board, it's flush against the wall but only touches the floor at either end, its about 20mm off the floor in the middle in a 3 metre length.
Should I have used a primer or something first, what am I doing wrong?

Yeah, that's what I'll do with the quantity I've varnished for the first room alright but I haven't the skirting for the 2nd room varnished yet, just wondering what I should do different this time around.
