varnishing faded wood - coming up yellow

Hi

Have a timber shelf running along the inside of my conservatory - over the years it has got faded in parts, while other areas are darker.

I sanded it back as much as possible and applied a medium oak varnish - while it looks fine in the darker parts, it looks bright yellow on the faded sections.

What do you recommend?

Its very hard to get it all even just by sanding. Try stripping it down and use a wood stain like colron or rustins and then varnish over

Hi errigal

There is a product that is used for bringing back the colour of decking boards.
Can't for the life of me remember the name of it but you can get it in places like Viking Marine
I've never used inside the house but it might bring back the colour you want.
Of course you'll have to strip off the varnish you've put on it again.
