Valve on gas hob supply?

I'm fitting a new kitchen and need to move my gas hob. I was expecting a valve behind the oven unit to seal off the hob so the plumbing could be moved. Is it normal to have to do this with the house supply off? Is it possible to fit a gas cock to the hob supply? Cheers.

It is normal to have a shut off valve on individual appliance supplies; this is stipulated in the Bord Gais guidance manual, so have a route around to ensure you haven't overlooked it. The valve may be quite remote from the appliance, trace the supply back to the main and see if you can locate it. If there's is no valve, yes it can be added very easily but this work should be carried out by a BG registered technician.

Cheers Carpenter, getting it done for 50€ from a guy on the BG site.
