Does anyone remember from Leaving Cert from years back a story/prose called 'The value of a college education" or something like that

I think it was a piece of prose contained in a book with a blue cover

Anyone know the name of the book or know where you could get the text of this story/piece of prose

Thanks

Yes, it was the first prose piece in a volume of prose produced by the Christian Brothers first in hard back and later in soft back. The piece was written by a person called Newman (I think). I remember the book well.

I have come across it in 2nd hand book shops from time to time. Sorry, I cant supply more information.

It was called 'The Idea of a University' by Cardinal John Newman and I think the book was called A Book of English Prose.

I have a feeling I still have my copy at home; it was used by all my older brothers & sisters, layers and layers of their notes written all over it!

You can get a clean copy here if you like.

God love him, the man would be turning in his grave if he saw the state of third-level education today... :(
