We are currently in the process of getting a mortgage from Bank of Ireland. They have debited Eur140 from our account for "Valuation". When I queried what this was we were told it was to do with our mortgage. Is this a normal charge? If I kick up could it be waived? They a) did not inform us of it and b) took the money from the incorrect account (i.e. a second account that has nothing to do with our mortgage).
Don't know about getting the money back but we had to have our mortgage valued when we took out a top up loan on our mortgage. We had to pay the valuation fee which was about E100.
When I went for my mortgage I kicked up and had this waived. They are already making a lot of money out of you, so you should have plenty of leverage if you threaten to move elsewhere
