Vacuum - wooden floors

Hi, could someone recommend a decent vacuum cleaner for hardwood floors?

I'm looking at the Miele Cat & Dog - but I don't see any mention of wooden floors.

we have a Dyson and it works....why are you looking for a specialist vacuum cleaner...
as long as the head has bristles that extract & retract, it will be ok
 
Hello, we bought a Dyson with a special attachment for wooden floors (basically the bristles on the attachment are fine and soft, so won't scratch the floor. Have been using it for three years now, and no complaints.

same here, only using it a few months, but given how many other things scratch the solid floors we put down, this doesn't
 
I have a Miele and its very good on wooden floors. I hear that the cat and dog head is better than the one I have.
 
We have a Dyson, and previously had a Meile cat and dog. My wife still hasn't got over the loss of the Meile and would rate it over the Dyson by about a million miles.

By the way, I have theory about Dysons: your house will be less dustier with a Dyson - not because they work better, or have better suction, but because husbands/men do more hoovering. Something to do with our never ending love of gadgets and gizmos!!!

I got a Miele 'cat and dog' recently, the suction is exellent, great for wooden floors. I bought it because it was so highly recomened by so many people. Dyson did not get a great rating, but the posts above are happy wiith theirs.
 
Cool, I was looking at the Miele Cat and Dog but wasn't sure it would
good on wooden floors.

Only thing with Dyson is questionable build quality with the accessories... (eg handle, etc)
Maybe they've improved in the last few years
 
Have a dyson about 5 years- grey and yellow versioon. It is horrendous. Yes it has great suction. But it constantly falls to bits, parts come apart as you vacuum etc. The cleaner brings her own vaccuum rather than use ours which says a lot.
