Using US Dollars in Ireland in the US...

I have US dollars in a $ account with AIB in Ireland. We are travelling to the US on holidays this year and would like to use these dollars as our spending money when we are in the US – however AIB have confirmed to us that we will have to withdraw the funds – convert them to euro to withdraw (and pay commission) and then convert them back to dollars – another commission!

Surely we should be able to just withdraw the dollars in the US from a First Trust bank or could we transfer some of them to the people we are staying with (my aunt) and then withdraw them in the US. It seems crazy that we would have to covert to euro to withdraw and then back to dollars???

Any suggestions would be great.
 
As it is a deposit account I don't think that they will offer an ATM. I will check with them though.
