Using FreeNow to get to the airport

On Monday night, I booked a FreeNow for 7.15 yesterday morning to go to the airport.

He arrived at 7.30 which made me nervous but, as it happened, there were no queues in the airport.

I told the FreeNow taxi this on the way back, and he told me not to pre-Book but just call it when I was ready to go. I thought that this would be risky - might there not be a long wait?

I've pre-booked to the airport a few times and they've always arrived on time. Although I don't think your driver is allocated until shortly before your pick-up time so it still somewhat depends on driver availability in your area.

Agree. I always prebook. And 90% of the time they are on time. However the drivers have also advised me that its usual to receive the job just 15 mins before. ( Not sure if you have seen this but it appears Free Now have introduced an ‘airport promise’ - and given your driver was late it sounds as though (under same) you should be eligible under that for some credit or vouchers?).

As I’m new to AAM I cannot attach link but if you lookup FreeNow airport promise you should find same.

I got a €15 voucher for use on my next trip as long as it was used within 30 days. Why not give me a discount on the failed trip?

I presume that the rationale was that I was so annoyed with FreeNow that I probably would not use them again. But I did use them last night on the way back to use the discount.

I think you are based in Dublin but I have always had a good experience with Borough taxis for fixed rate fares to the airport. My main issue is they are usually outside early! I don't know their fee structure but I hope the money stays more in the economy than FreeNow? Maybe I am wrong on that.

That suggests that you might as well order it when you are ready. The guy who arrived late said it was beyond his control due to traffic. But if there had been a taxi in the Sandymount area, he would have been less impacted by traffic.

That is exactly how FreeNow treat it and I've had a few nail biting moments waiting for the job to get picked up. If you are pre-ordering for a time when taxis are in high demand, you will have difficulty.

I tried to get around it by using smaller cab companies, but all that I've tried so far are doing the same thing.
