Using computer for internet banking after virus

Hi

I got a nasty Trojan virus on my laptop this afternoon, and after almost 8 hours of anti-viral acrobatics I think I may have got rid of it. I am worried about using internet banking now though - in case there is any residual virus left, perhaps my codes etc.. could be hacked. Does anyone else have similar experience?

Thanks

A very tired Noor

You need to install a good line of defence.
Firewall, AV, Anti-Malware, the lot.
Lots of downtime if you don't

Thanks for the replies. I think I won't use it for banking until the end of the week. Don't want to risk it, just in case!

Just one more thing! I switched from McAfee to Avast today - should I have something in addition to Avast, or is it sufficient on it's own?

Thanks

I have also downloaded some anti-spyware and anti-malware apps and I'm pretty confident I'm clean now. Just as a precaution though I changed my banking password via telephone.

Thanks

What about Zone Alarm for a Firewall? I have been told that this is much better than Windows Firewall.

Windows firewall for XP was pretty bad alright, and I would recommend a 3rd party firewall for that, but for later Windows versions, the default is a lot better. Personally, I found Zone Alarm incredibly intrusive.

There are several comparison websites online for both firewalls and AVC solutions and you pays yer money and you makes yer choice.
The below are some of them - I have no connection o these sites and am not recommending them - search around and form your own opinion :)

You have to check compatibility of products before you buy, particularly where all-in-one products are offered bu the vendor.

At first glance these may seem excellent but if you search out individual reviews you may find there are incompatibilities with other software or a reduced level of performance against another product whose scanning engine - for example- is supposed to be used by the product being reviewed.

FWIW

Why what was Zone Alarm doing. I never had a problem with it. Mind you I have automatic updates turned off. I like to do that myself.
