using a Mac Monitor with another machine (say IBM thinkpad)

Hi,

I was surprised to find, on initial examination, that it is not possible to use an Apple Mac Desktop Monitor with another machine say a Dell laptop or an IBM think pad. Does anyone have this set up successfully. How did you go about it.
 
What type of Monitor is it? Size etc?
What connection cables do you have (VGA/DVI)
The laptop should have a VGA out on them at least?
 
You'll need to use the appropriate adapter DVI / mini-DVI (there's more than one kind) on one end for the external monitor, SVGA for the Windoze laptop.

The on-line Apple store, a high-street Apple dealer, Peats or Maplins are usually reliable sources. Take the part-number off the label on the back of the monitor with you or refer to the user manual.
