Useful tip for getting better service...

I had to get Sky to change some account details for me that I've been trying to sort out for over 6 months. Every time I called I got put through to a call centre in India (or at least to people who sounded like they were from India). Now I know that these people are only trying to make a living, and I have been very patient in the past, staying on line for over 40 minutes one time without a result, but I found it very difficult to make myself understood to the indian personnel (I have a fast Belfast accent and live in Cork). On saturday it was the last straw for me - I called up again and was put through to 'Paddy'. He asked me what I wanted to do - I said to fix my address details. He asked me my postcode. I said we didn't use postcodes in Ireland. He sounded confused, then asked me what I wanted to do again. I said I had to check something and would call back.

I then called again, but chose the option for sales. When I got through to the sales department, who spoke clear unbroken English, I quickly explained that I couldn't seem to make myself understood to their customer services personnel and could they help (I was careful to not be xenophobic!). She then put me through to a ...dumdumdum... Cork office! I had my query and request resolved in less than 5 minutes, with no problems regarding the spelling of where I lived. She even found and resolved a problem with the Sky magazine going to an old address that I had previously just given up on. I hope this helps anyone having similar difficulties!
