Used the wrong credit card number but it went through anyway

I made a purchase online and they had kept my debit card details so I just clicked "Pay now" and my order was confirmed. I wasn't asked for a CVV.

But I realised too late that it was my old credit card ending in 3222 which I replaced some time ago - well over a year.

But I just checked my bank account and the money has come out of my bank account, anyway.

I haven't lost out but it just seems odd that my old credit card works.

Bank account?

This is the most likely explanation (not specific to BoI or indeed Visa. Mastercard have something similar):

My new credit card has the same numbers as the old ones. Only difference is date of expiry and CVV number on the back. I have a few monthly recurrent charges on my credit card and it was handy not to update card number (but perhaps not a safe feature).
I suppose if it was a trusted device it didn't ask you for CVV.
