US Presidential Election 2024

Yes, probably too much to expect any of them to show a backbone.
I really think that the Democrats need to do some real hard thinking.

Americans know what Trump is and they know what he'll do and they really don't like it or him but they still prefer him to the Democrats.

When the public tell you that they'd rather have a nether-region grabbing, tax dodging convicted felon who tried to start a civil war than you then you need to really take stock of what you are selling.

I don't think Americans do know what he'll do. I don't think Trump even knows what he'll do.
What do Americans really think about his economically illiterate tariff plan?
Do they believe his nonsense about it?

There's a significant percentage of the American voters who are in a Fox news bubble.
I don't know how Democrats can reach them without alienating a large part of their own base.

A stronger Democratic candidate may have won, even one who said exactly what Harris said, but in a white male voice.
That's where US politics are at right now.

It may be they need to wait for the reality of what Trump governance looks like, as happened in the UK with Brexit\Boris, for the voters to wise up. There's only so much the Democrats can do to wise them up.

They'll get the farce pretty soon.

Matt Gaetz nominee for Attorney General!

Maybe if Democrats tried some Republican tactics. Maybe they're perceived as following the rules too much and too worried about not offending. Maybe Americans, like a good few Irish, would prefer the chancer or the rogue

During the mess when republicans couldn't elect a speaker perhaps the Dems should have backed a republican. Could have caused infighting and splits in the Republicans.

.

The last time they put Joe biden as their nomination and he is the only guy since 2016 along with all the republican nominees since then to beat trump. They discounted that victory too easily thinking that Joe biden was just a temporary little arrangement and they could go back to business as usual with all this "progressive " politics. Kamala Harris was chosen as his running mate in order to assuage that progressive element in the republican party. I'm not blaming her either i thought she ran a good campaign . That was the fundamental mistake, also Nancy Pelosi made a huge mistake in pushing biden out of the race. He should have been left to fight the election come what may

They lost this election when they nominated Harris as VP last time. There's no way the American public will elect a woman from an ethnic minority as President. They are quite a militaristic society so they are choosing a commander in chief as well as a President. The bottom line is that the majority of Americans don't want to buy what the Democrats are selling. That could be down to the product, the marketing or the salesperson or a combination thereof. I don't think Biden would have done better. I thought Harris ran a good race and would have been a good President but her Party conspired to lose the election and they succeeded in that.

With Musk in the Presidents ear and so many socially conservative crazy god-bothering creationist nutters in the Cabinet I feel very sorry for Trans people in America. Their future looks quite bleak.

The American voter is not entirely stupid. They know what Trump is and still voted for him knowing that broken promises are coming not to mention his crimes and lies. They don’t fear a female president; just look at Hilary Clinton’s total vote some years ago. They don’t fear a black president either; just look at Barack Obama. Harris was beaten, but not landslide stuff.

The Democrats likely will ditch Kamala Harris although I reckon she’s the Democrats best chance in the next presidential election. But, Americans are wrongfully caught up in the so called American Dream etc.

This time the presidential election was the stuff of which Soap Opera is made. Until Americans get to the other side of show business, they are stuck with the likes of Trump.

If I were Zelensky, I’d be very worried. If I were Palestinian I’d be even worried more. If I were American, I’d be fearing another 9/11. I’m Irish and I am worried about what Trump will or won’t do.

There are 40 million Americans who own Bitcoin. It seems to me that for Bitcoin holders the main thing that matters to them is the Bitcoin price. It was accepted wisdom at least amongst those who follow these matters that Bitcoin was on a big bet on Trump. The ECB predicted that Bitcoin would go from 70k to 30k/90k depending on who won. How right they were. Certainly if you were a "swing" Bitcoin holder it is pretty obvious who you would swing to. This was quite a clever move by Trump. His instinct and his intelligence made him immediately denounce it as a scam. Then along came Musk and Trump saw a very easy captive audience. Announcing to the cult that Bitcoin would be central to MAGA won many votes and probably didn't lose many.

I cling to the following thought piece.
Musk and Trump have truly MAGA egos. The Bromance can't last long. The crack will come when Trump welches on his promise to Musk to make the US the bitcoin capital of the world - he rightly doesn't believe in it at all. Listen to the bang as the BOHA blows out.
