If you have a multiregion dvd player it will work (and of course if your tv is relatively new so it will show NTSC). USA are region 1, europe is region 2
 
You can make your region specific DVD player multi region with a simple hack.
I did this yesterday for my Philips DVD player which was a region 2 player. I can now watch Heroes Season 1 which I got from the US! My player is now region free!
Some sites charge for the hack, but I got mine from

If you can't find your make/model on the website I posted earlier, this website charge, but if they don't have your particular player listed, you can email them and apparently they will do their best to send you one.

I guess I was lucky I have a recent/common model.

Alternatively, Dunnes sell a multi region player, Plustron is the make, for about 36 euro. Can't go wrong with that!

yes unfortunately i appear to have a non hackable dvd player, interesting info about the dunnes one.
