Whenever I turn on my computer, I receive a message requesting for permission to update Java. How do I know if it is save to do so?

Also, Windows Messenger always comes on when I turn on the PC. How do I stop this?

Thanks.

Usually to update Java you just click on where the update request is. For messenger, in the options there should be a check box along the lines of "Launch on startup". If you uncheck that it should sort it

Java is owned by Sun Microsystems and so is a safe a reliable company to accept update requests from.

If some unknown company or program is requesting updates and you don't recognise the name, don't accept. Post the name up here and we can help.
