Unpaid PAYE

Guys & Gals,
I have an outstanding PAYE bill that needs to be paid by 31st of this month.
I was using an umbrella company back in 2007, they made a mistake with my calculation and informed me that I have to pay out more then 1k.
I received this notification ages ago but as I have been busy with other companies I totally forgot about.
At the moment I am not in a position to pay out this lump sum and was wondering what my options were.
I wanted to run this query by you guys before contacting the revenue.

Has anybody been in a similar situation, is it possible to pay the monies owed back over an extended period of time?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Apologies, I thought this post was better suited to the personal tax related section.

What sort of notification is it? If it is a Notice of Assessment ( which I assume from your mention of the october 31st date) then Revenue will accept instalment arrangements but accrued interest to date and deferred interest for the term of credit are both likely to be charged. You can contact the Collector General's office in Limerick and ask for instalments. However you may find that other short term credit like overdraft may be cheaper and pay Revenue in full instead.

Thanks for the reply.
I had a feeling there was some form of deferred payment option but couldn't find any info on it.
I think I will give the collectors General a buzz tomorrow to see what I can sort out.

Thanks again.

Revenue charge almost 1% per month. They really should only be used as a last resort if you cannot raise the money elsewhere.

Well the amount isn't massive so would have no issue paying the 1% as it would only be for a month or 2.
Thanks for the heads up, I will see what the collector Gen's office say tomorrow and take it from there.

Lesson learned - the umbrella company used in 06/7 were completely USELESS.
