Hi

Can anyone give me an idea of what an unmarried couple with one child and a mortgage would be entitled to assuming that the man has just been made unemployed and the woman has been at home caring for the child.

Thanks.

Assuming that the person just made unemployed has been paying PRSI, is available for, and seeking full-time work, he can make a claim for Jobseeker's Benefit from the local SW office.

As a family, you can apply for Mortgage Interest Supplement by contacting the Community Welfare Officer at your local health centre. Mortgage Interest Supplement is a means-tested scheme to assist with the interest portion of your mortgage, and is subject to certain qualifying criteria.

Have a look at www.welfare.ie and follow the links for "person who is unemployed" for more information.
