Unmarried Couple on single PAYE income - best tax strategy?

Unmarried couple, partner left her job February 2008 when pregnant with our second child. She hasn't been claiming any form of welfare and I'm unsure as to tax position for an unmarried couple so still paying tax as a single person.

I'm a PAYE worker earning 55,000 + VHI Plan B Options

Can I claim any of my partner's tax free allowance as she's now a stay at home mom? If so, can this be back-dated to the point when she left her job?

Is it possible to claim her medical expenses for the pregnancy (fully private) on my MED1 form even though we're not married?

Would we qualify for Family Income Support or anything like that?
 
1) You cannot claim any of her tax credits or SRCOP as you are not married.

2) You can claim allowable medical expenses for any other person provided you pay the bill, you do not have to be related. For 2009 relief is at standard rate. FOr years up to and including 2008 relief is at taxpayers marginal rate.
