Unemployment Benefit/Ass

Hi I am a self employed person contracted with a company and i am out of work for the second time this year,last time for over 3months which i received no benefits so it was very hard not getting any pay at all.
This time is related to the last time,i have spent some time in hospital and i still do not have an outcome.I am waiting for results but i have been advised by doctors to leave my current job as it ivvolves driving and my job involves driving full time so i went to the welfare office and explained my situation,I can not live off no money or il die of starvation etc.. but this time they said i would probably be entitled to UA so they filled out the form and said they would contact me.
My main question is, as i am paying rent is there anywhere else you can cliam for this as UA alone still wont pay rent and be enough to survive in this day and age.
Any advice or info appreciated.

Self employed Class S PRSI is limited in the cover provided for PRSI linked benefits like UB. However this does not mean that you cannot apply for means tested allowances (e.g. UA). Also you may be entitled to illness/disability related payments and possibly maybe including . Probably best to discuss your situation with your local and local Welfare officers who can better apprise you of your entitlements. I'm not sure if [broken link removed] for claiming back tax paid while unemployed applies to previously self employed individuals or just PAYE.
